Pre-Loaded Whole House BIRM Media Replacement Tank
Iron & Manganese Reduction | For Existing Whole House Systems
The Pre-Loaded Whole House Birm Media Replacement Tank is designed to replace an existing iron or iron/manganese filter tank in a whole-house water treatment system. It arrives fully assembled and pre-loaded with high-quality Birm media, making it a simple, cost-effective way to restore iron and manganese removal performance without replacing your entire system.
This tank is intended for point-of-entry (POE) whole-house installation, treating all water entering the home. Simply remove the control valve from your existing tank, install it onto the new tank, reconnect plumbing, and return your system to proper operation.
What Birm Media Does
Birm is a catalytic filtration media used to remove dissolved iron and manganese from water. It works by accelerating the oxidation of these contaminants so they can be captured and filtered out of the water supply.
Reduces iron staining (red/brown)
Reduces manganese staining (black/gray)
Improves water clarity and metallic taste
Does not add chemicals or salt
Birm is not consumed during filtration, allowing for long service life when water conditions are suitable.
Key Benefits
Whole House Iron & Manganese Reduction – Treats all incoming water
Pre-Loaded Replacement Tank – No loose media handling or refilling
Chemical-Free Operation – No salt, no chemicals, no regeneration
Low Operating Cost – Lightweight media with efficient backwashing
Protects Plumbing & Fixtures – Prevents staining and buildup
Compatible with Standard Control Valves – Easy system replacement
Important Water Requirements
For Birm media to function properly, incoming water must meet certain conditions:
Dissolved oxygen must be present
pH requirements:
Iron: ≥ 6.8
Manganese: ≥ 8.0
No chlorine in the water (chlorine degrades Birm)
Low hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)
No oil, tannins, or heavy organic contamination
If these conditions are not met, alternative media such as KDF, catalytic carbon, or manganese dioxide may be more appropriate.
Proper System Placement
This is a whole-house replacement tank, typically installed:
After sediment pre-filtration
Before softeners, carbon filters, or drinking water systems
Correct placement ensures optimal performance and long media life.
Compatibility
Designed with industry-standard mineral tanks and 2.5″ openings, this replacement tank is compatible with most whole-house iron filtration systems and standard control valves (Fleck, Clack, Autotrol) and brands such as Pentair, Pelican, SpringWell and more.
Suitable as a replacement for systems from many major brands using standard tank configurations.
Control valve not included unless specified.
