How Does Mixed Bed DI Resin Work?

Mixed bed deionization uses a combination of two specialized ion exchange resins to remove residual dissolved ions from water.

Cation Exchange Resin exchanges positively charged dissolved ions, such as calcium, magnesium, and sodium, for hydrogen ions.

Anion Exchange Resin exchanges negatively charged dissolved ions, such as chloride, sulfate, and nitrate, for hydroxide ions.

The released hydrogen and hydroxide ions combine to form water, leaving significantly fewer dissolved ionic impurities.

When installed as the final filtration stage after a reverse osmosis membrane, mixed bed DI resin helps polish RO-filtered water to exceptionally low TDS levels.

Color-Changing Resin Technology

LiquaGen's color-changing mixed bed DI resin provides a convenient visual indicator of resin exhaustion.

As the resin approaches the end of its usable capacity, it gradually changes to brown, helping users monitor resin condition without unnecessary guesswork.

Once the resin is exhausted, simply open the refillable cartridge, remove the depleted resin, and refill it with fresh compatible mixed bed DI resin.
